The refinery and pipeline operation employs 406 people. This American owned and operated facility can trace its roots back to 1919. They produce a complete line of quality fuels, including Premium road diesel, off-road diesel and high-performance gasoline. The refinery processes approximately 26,800 barrels of crude oil each day, or a total of 410 million gallons of finished products per year.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Over the years pipeline operations installed Motorola MRUs to monitor and control various terminals and tank farms. Motorola MRTUs and the INTRAC CIU completed the control infrastructure utilizing RealFlex as the HMI interface. When the CIU became troublesome and replacements were no longer readily available it was replaced by the more modern FIU. This worked reliably for many years until the MRUs and MRTUs began to fail. Replacing all of these units were not in the budget.
RealFlex offered a mixed network solution, replacing the oldest field devices with modern technology. Replacing 20% of the field units per year freed up spare parts for the remaining MRU’s and MTRU’s.
- Spreading the cost of upgrading over 5 years while retaining gold star reliability.
- Maintaining regulatory reporting compliance.
- Mixed networking allows for cost savings as technologies evolve
- Labor savings since current on site maintenance staff can replace units at their own pace
- Minimal interruption in day to day operation.
RealFlex understands getting the value out of control systems. We offer the latest security and our legendary reliability irregardless of manufacture or age of the current infrastructure.
